3 Major Factors Triggering Mental Disorders

Dr. Vincent Rager
Although the main reason causing mental disorders is not known yet, different researches and studies are now helping to find out various factors that might contribute to a person’s mental illness. It has been revealed that mental disorders may get triggered by different biological, environmental and psychological factors. In this article, we will be highlighting what biological, environmental and psychological factors may give rise to mental disorders.

Biological factors:

Heredity:

Sometimes your family has a history in a certain kind of mental illness. A person may experience a mental disorder just because someone in his family has experienced the same disorder is the past. Since the illness is passed on through genes, it is not possible to escape.

Poor diet:

A lot of times patients end up under bad mental conditions because they are not taking good care of their diet. People who consume unhealthy food or do not take their meals properly are more prone to mental disorders.

Substance abuse:

Some people also experience mental disorders because they have been involved in substance abuse (drugs) for a long time.

Infections:

Some infections might also result in mental disorders.

Environmental factors:

Divorce:

Divorce can be a traumatic period for anyone; leaving a bad impact on the mind and contributing to a person’s mental disorder. Many times people end up in an obnoxious and unpleasant state of mind after they experience divorce.

Death of a loved one:

Another factor causing to a person’s mental disorder is the death of a closed one. No one among us would ever want to lose people we love and when we do, we feel devastated. We feel as if we have lost a part of ourselves by losing that person. Such feelings are so strong that they might leave a bad impact on the mental health of a person.

Psychological factor:

Serious psychological trauma:

There are a great number of people around us who have faced some severe kinds of mental traumas in the form of physical, mental or sexual abuse. Such people are more likely to develop a mental disorder.

A big loss in life:

Sometimes big losses in life leave people so broken and they find it really hard to fight back tough circumstances.
